The A(pilio) Team

Apilio V1.0 was created by Philipp Ebneter back in 2015. Device connectivity was exploding at the time with many companies launching smart home products. The Internet of Things (IoT) applied to the Smart Home was quickly changing and expanding.

Soon enough, Philipp became frustrated by the lack of interoperability between the different devices and systems. Why couldn’t he use the noise sensor in his smart thermostat as a simple home security system? Why couldn't it just communicate nicely with his Apple Watch?

Creativity was sparked by this frustration and so Apilio was born, first as an experiment to automate the Ebneter household. As Philipp continued to tinker in the IoT World and discuss with others that were also trying to make their homes smarter, he realised that other people and business were having the same issues he was experiencing. Everyone just wanted to make all their devices and services talk to one another so they could configure a truly bespoke system at home or at work.

Apilio was finally incorporated in the Fall of 2018, with the aim to grow Apilio into the World’s best Logic-as-a-Service (LaaS) platform.

Apilio Limited is incorporated in the UK with much of the development work undertaken in Switzerland.

The team in Switzerlad is based out of the ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Runway Incubator, but the team frequently works from home to reduce carbon emissions and strike a good balance between making a great product and having great lives.
